UPDATE: Live Chat Today, 12:30 PM (EDT)/9:30 AM (PDT)

by Myron Logan

Edit: Okay, the chat is coming up. I’ll probably open it up a little early, so you can begin submitting questions. At around 12:30, I’ll start answering them. Ask away!

Ahh, what the heck, let’s try this out. Okay, the details are in the title. Right here this Thursday at Friar Forecast – we’re trying to set a record for the smallest blog to host its own chat – we’ll be chatting at 12:30 PM EDT (which is 9:30 AM out West, where I know many of you are). This first one will be hosted by me, Myron Logan, but if it’s somewhat successful, we’ll set ‘em up with the co-bloggers, if they are willing …

Anyway, I’ll be thrilled to get like 20 questions, so if you’re around don’t be afraid to leave one (or more!). And anything is fair game. Like Mr. Gleeman, I encourage “off-topic” stuff in a format like this. We’ll see how this goes. I’ll repost this somehow on Thursday, but mark your calendars! The screen below is what you use for the chat, when the time comes:

Sorry mb, I have a final Thursday from 930-11:00. Yay for the quarter system (gag me). At least it is only for Recombinant DNA Lab, so it should be easy, I doubt it will still be going on but I’ll hop on when I get out. Lets hope everything goes well

Ahh crap. I won’t be around for this either. But look forward to reading it after it’s done.

Sorry mb, got out around 11 (2 pm your time) and kinda forgot, so was actually studying for other classes before I realized the more important thing (the chat). Glad you mentioned my name, haha.

For Blanks- Unless AGon gets hurt I dont think you will see him play more then a handful of games for the Padres. The reason is obvious (AGon is just better). There was a rumor going around a couple weeks ago that the Padres were interested in trading Blanks to Washington for Jordan Zimmerman (Nats #1 prospect 22 year old starter comparable to Mat Latos). I think that is the deal you will see the Padres go for. The Padres will trade quality for quality (not Blanks for 3 pretty good minor leaguers but top prospect for top prospect). More then likely a starter since that is what the Padres are lacking. Dont be surprised to see the deal revisited.

For Durango- he has some great things going for him and some things go against him. For him, he is probably the best average hitter in the Padres system and one of the best in all of the minors (expect him to either win or be top 5 in Cal League this year). He also has great speed (and unlike most others) can bunt for a base hit really well. More BB then K and only K’s at a 10.17% clip (really good). The problem is that 1)He has a Juan Pierre arm (not good) and thus is really limited to LF. 2) Has Juan Pierre power (again not good at all) 3 HR in 850 minor league AB (ouch)and only 42 extrabase hits overall (as in he doesnt even have gap power). 3) Someone that has his hitting ability (.350 lifetime BA) should be stealing 30+ bases a year. He only stole 15 all of last year.

All in all Durango can end up being a solid MLB player even without power if he can prove he can steal bases. He might be given a shot just because he is such a slap hitter but in order to stick at the MLB level he will need to be able to steal 25+ bases a year (if he is going to be bound to LF and hit for 0 power) Durango turns 23 next month so he still has time. Though. The earliest you see him is a Sept call up next year. More realistically we are talking midseason 2011

Awesome chat! We’ll have to do this on a Wednesday at some point because I’m always busy on Thursdays.

I agree. Wednesday afternoon (local time) would be perfect. MB could you possibly do a chat at around 3 or 4 pm your time (so noon or 1 out in Cali)?

Once school is over (May … yeah, I know it’s a ways away), I should be able to do them basically any day, any time (except maybe the morning). For now, though, I have school and baseball practice. Thursday is my best day. I could do a chat at night, but I think many people go on the ‘net at work or school (daytime), so the turnout may be bad.

I think I’m going to stick with the same time for next week, but after that it might change. And when/if you guys do one, we’ll set it up at a time that works obviously.
