Is Hairston expected to be the everyday center fielder? I'm under the impression he's platooning with Tony Gwynn, Jr., who didn't stand to see much playing time with Kouz in the lineup.

(I'm assuming the outfield had been Headley/Venable/Blanks.)

The deal, to me, doesn't seem to be about the players involved (except for maybe Cunningham). Neither Hairston or Kouzmanoff are long-term Padres, but the team is now able to give Blanks, Gwynn, and Venable all good looks. Not to mention getting Headley back to third. There was a lot of talk that Headley cut a lot of weight to play the outfield so if he's able to bulk up and give himself more power, that'd be nice, too.
