Friday links

Just a few this week … for real.

First a quick blog note … I’ve created one of those Del.icio.us things like Geoff has over at DS. It lets me to put some relevant links to single articles without having to make a new post or jam them all into a links post. It’ll largely be Padres and sabermetric stuff… kind of like this blog. For now, it says “More links” and it’s down toward the bottom of the sidebar, but I may move it or change the name (or get rid of it, I don’t know).

Anyway, speaking of Geoff, he’s still going with community projections over at Ducksnorts. In that post you can see links to all the previous DS projections/guesses. Like I’ve said before, it’ll be interesting to compare the community projections to the numbers-based ones and also see which ones do better after the season.

Corey Brock has the latest from the Hall of Champions lunch.

RJ Anderson (Beyond the Box Score) previews the Padres … “I usually don’t make bold predications, but I really cannot imagine this team not winning the division, even with Arizona, Colorado, and Los Angeles nipping at their heels.”

Tango uses retrosheet to look at aging for shortstops (fielding-wise). Of course, as Greene enters his age 28 season, this has extra relevance. He has more positions coming up, too.

Pizza Cutter with an interesting study on average fly ball distance for pitchers and hitters. As you might expect (or maybe not), hitters have a higher year to year correlation for fly ball distance than pitchers.

Sweet. Glad to see you on del.icio.us; I’ve added you to my network.

Thanks, Geoff. I’ll add you to my network once I figure it out.

Also, thanks to anyone who has added or hyped my stories on ballhype. I’m not even sure how that thing works, but maybe I should sign up. Anyway, I saw that I got some traffic from there and a couple of you guys (Geoff, sdpads, maybe a couple others) voted for my posts. Thanks!
