Ten things I learn each week

I have mentioned a time or ten here that Dan Fox’s column at BP is perhaps my favorite one on the ‘net (and it’s up today, by the way). To me, it pays for the BP subscription by itself (although I may have different thoughts on that if I actually paid for that BP subscription with my own money …). Well, another one that I enjoy quite a bit is Dave Studeman’s “Ten Things I Learned Last Week” column at the Hardball Times. I mention it specifically today because it’s full of good stuff … some of which I’ve talked about here before.
His third topic there touches on WPA/LI, which I started to get into in the comments of my WPA post a while back. If you’re really interested in that, here’s more from Tango. I’m in the same “it’s got me thinking” boat that Studes is, though I’m probably in much more shallow water.
Studes also links to a pretty awesome study on pitchers’ rest between starts. As you can see, nowadays most starts are made on 4 or 5 days rest. In, say, the 30’s there were many more starts on 3 days of rest but also more on 6, 7, and 8 days than today.
Anyway, Studes’ column is back for the year and I’m excited about that.
